Solar Crisis: Futuristic sci-fi thriller with Matheson leading a spare-the planet mission to the sun to stop a solar flash from annihilating the world. Fine visual effects and suspenseful tale in space harmed by world pranks of poor boy Boyle who preposterously desires to undermine the mission. Born American: The Cold War lives on as 3 youthful Americans vacationing in Finland inadvertently cross the boundary into Russia. Once there they battle it out with the local troops. Alright action scenes and personable youthful cast sugarcoat the bulky-handed partisan overtones. Cast includes Mike Norris, Steve Durham, David Coburn, Thalmus Rasulala, and Albert Salmi. The X-Files: FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully hit the big screen in the first X-Files movie. Investigating the bombing of an office building in Dallas, the two agents are drawn into an even greater mystery. It eventually leads them to an alien plan to colonize the planet, and the U.S. government is somehow involved.
Face Off: Two thirds of a super film: National representative Travolta concurs to have a heinous felon’s face grafted onto his own, in request to moron the no-good sibling into pouring important data. However the challenging plan goes awry in more ways than one. Travolta and Cage are charismatically over the top, and Woo’s orchestrating of action scenes is effectively excellent although the film doesn’t know while to halt. Stupid structuring and discussion may have been disregarded in a firmer film. Cast includes John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Joan Allen, Alessandro Nivola, Gina Gershon, Dominique Swain, John Carroll Lynch, and Jamie Denton. (138 minutes, 1997)
Jacob the Liar: This is a joke story of Jew Brodsky, whose inaccurate stories to associate ghetto dwellers give some hope contrary to their Nazi captors. Cast includes Vlastimil Brodsky, Erwin Geschonneck, Manuela Simon, Henry Hubchen, Blanche Kommerell, and Armin Mueller-Stahl. (95 minutes, 1974)
The Three Muskateers: Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis join young D’Artagnan in an attempt to stop Cardinal Richelieu, who is plotting to form an alliance with the English. The Musketeers are abandoned, and asked to throw down their swords. These three refuse, and along with D’Artagnan will try and save France.
Navy Seals: Navy Seals go into the Mid-East to rescue captured US pilots. During this successful rescue, the Seals observe that the enemy terrorist have Stinger missiles in their possession. With not time to destroy the missiles, they leave them behind and complete the rescue mission. We need to recover these weapons before terrorists have the chance to use them.
No Man’s Land: Abstinent, seductive account of a few characters engaged with smuggling contraband across the French Swiss boundary, concentrating on their motivations and disillusionment. Cast includes Hugues Quester, Myriam Mezieres, Jean-Philippe Ecoffey, Betty Berr, and Marie-Entice Felber. (110 minutes, 1985)
Sign of the Pagan: Choppy script hinders tale of Attila the Hun bullying Rome; Sirk’s trendy direction helps somehow. Cast includes Jeff Chandler, Jack Palance, Ludmilla Tcherina, Rita Gam, Jeff Morrow, and Alexander Scourby. (92 minutes, 1954)
