Does anyone know of any prestigous art schools?? something top-notch?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: top art schools

i want to apply to an art school but theres not much advertising or publicity for art schools anymore. does anyone know of a very good one. say an ivy league list of art schools?? and what does one need to apply? portfolio?

In the US? The top ranked art schools – the Ivy League of art schools – is:

- Rhode Island School of Design
- School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Those are, no doubt, the top two. Very, very strong.

After them come some other, excellent schools:
- Yale
- California Institute of the Arts
- Cranbrook Academy

And then it really depends on what discipline you plan to study. But in general, toward the top, you'll tend to find:
- Alfred University – NY State College of Ceramics (this art school is good for Ceramics ONLY. I would not go there for anything else. But for ceramics, they are OUTSTANDING.)
- Art Center College of Design
- Carnegie Mellon
- School of Visual Arts
- California College of Arts and Crafts
- Maryland Institute, College of Art
- Pratt Institute
- Parsons

Other strong art schools are: Mass Art, Bard College, UCLA, Virginia Commonwealth U, U Iowa, Arizona State, RIT, San Francisco Art Institute (NOT part of that "Art Institute" chain of schools), U Wisconsin Madison, Columbia U, Temple, University of the Arts (PA), Cleveland Institute of Art, Otis, Rutgers New Brunswick, and Syracuse.

Even for the art schools that are part of major universities, such as Syracuse and Rutgers, you do tend to need a portfolio when applying to the art department. For all these programs, you may or may not need SATs, depending on the school – they tell you on their website. You also often need decent grades in high school. But for the pure art schools, unlike for the universities, they often admit you based primarily on that portfolio, so long as the rest of your application is also decent.

I am looking for one that is not so expensive like Julliard. But still is credited.

One, where I could get a good degree, and still stand out in drama.

thanks!

Try SUNY Purchase its a state school but near New York City …It is a New York college. They are reasonable even if your out of state I believe.
