which school for photography?

I have been accepted as a BFA photography major to School of Visual Arts, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, California College of the Arts and is still waiting to hear from San Francisco Art Institute. Though I'm focused on SVA or SAIC, I'm not sure where to go. Could anybody give me any advice?

Hi! I got accepted to SVA too! Im a photography major as well…anyway…i think that you should definately fo to SVA…its definately one of the best and somewhere that will help you go further with your art and do something with it…but ultimately the choice is up to you…do whatever you feel is the right move for you personally, whatever decision you feel you will benefit the most from…Good Luck and take care!

Does anyone know any great art schools?

After my two years at Saint Louis University, I plan on transferring to an art school to pursue a career in art, visual art. I'm not exactly sure on what I'll get into, anything that deals with visual art is good to me. I have looked at Kansas City Art Institue and the Art Institute of Chicago. They seem great, but I am not sure on a good art school. If someone can give me an opinion about these schools or any other, I would appreciate it.

Try the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, & Planning (DAAP). It has several nationally ranked programs and is a great midwestern school. The tuition and living expenses are very reasonable. Plus UC gives out a ton of scholarships.
I have heard that transferring into DAAP is a little tricky and competetive. Just make sure that you have really good grades before applying.

What are my chances of getting into an American/Canadian University?

I’m a 4th year (sophomore) in senior school (high school) in Ireland. I just completed my Junior Cert and did reasonably well (8 honors and 2 pass) and I really have my heart set on going to college in the U.S or Canada. I want to major in Film. Can someone tell me what my chances are? Colleges I have in mind are University of Toronto, University of Chicago and School of the Art Institute Chicago.

It’s hard to judge how well you, as an International student, have in terms of chances at an American or Canadian University. University of Toronto is a decent Canadian school, yet it simply doesn’t compare to the University of Chicago (which is extremely competitive). I don’t know anything about the Art Institute. The schools you’re interested in aren’t known for Film, so I’d recommend you also look at the University of Southern California and the New York University, both having excellent film programs. art grad school?

i was wondering what my chances are of getting into a good grad school for painting (also some illustration, i want to do children's books)
i'm from arkansas, senior finishing a degree in fine arts, and i have a 3.75. i've won several awards, and recieved scholarships to KCAI and MCA when i applied to undergraduate schools (but i couldn't afford to live out of state at that time) i've also headed arts programs at Girl's Inc and Hospice.
i'm not really looking at going to a snotty school like RISD, but more like university of georgia, cal state-fullerton, indiana, or seattle. (or if i was to pick a snotty school, i wouldn't mind going to the Art Institute of Chicago)
anyhoo, i was just wanting some advice on how to get into a great grad school and some steps i should take to help my chances. i'm planning on taking at least a year off to get some money since my parents aren't rich. Thank ya!

Sounds like you have laid some pretty great groundwork.
I would make sure you have a good portfolio and keep it updated while you are taking time off from school. I don't think you will have any problems getting into whatever school you choose.

Columbia College, Chicago [Art institute] Question?

I was reading the admissions application for Columbia College, Chicago and it said to list all the colleges/universities Ive have attended since high school. Is that just to see what Ive done or do I need to attend another college to get into this one?

no, they just want to know if you've taken any classes at other colleges that may be able to transfer credits to this one. its not a requirement. this way they can ask the other colleges for transcripts, and you dont have to take the same class again.

Some art is never meant to be completed. From December 13 to January 10, 2008, the School of the Art Institute of Chicagos Curatorial Practice students present No End in Sight, a multimedia exhibition that investigates perpetuity in artistic practice.

This exhibition explores works that are perpetual in nature, including works that have an undefined or unreachable endpoint; series composed of multiples the artist is compelled to continue; and projects that incorporate viewer participation as a way to continue regeneration of the piece. Blurring the borders between life and artistic practice, selected artworks provoke the audience to consider art as an ongoing process, as opposed to a static event.

Featured artists approach these ideas with innovative forms and techniques. Each piece goes beyond the here and now, suggesting an art form that endures not through historical canonization, but through active methods of repetition, regeneration, and recognition of the infinite. Collectively, these works encourage the audience to redefine its role from traditional viewer to witness of, or active participant in, the process.

Columbia College, Chicago or The Art Institute, Raleigh-Durham?

I am applying to to both schools and should have no problem getting into either one. From what I’ve seen (and heard), Columbia APPEARS to be the better school, but how much so? I am going to study graphic design. Will Columbia be the better choice for that area of study? If I chose The Art Institute in Raleigh, what would I be missing out school/education-wise?

I would compare the curriculum on their websites.
